These Junior athletes are big achievers both on and off the court. They participate in other adaptive sports and excel at all of them. With their dedication and work ethic, they could become future olympians and we look forward to seeing them grow!

July 20^th: A Big shout out to future King Dago Saenz Cevallos, who just set three new national swimming records in the National Junior Disability Championships!

Our coach Melanie Brionez responded to an invitation by the United States Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball team to help out with some scrimmages at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. We were glad to oblige and had a great time while doing so.

We played several games against the US Women’s team over 2 different weekends. It was a great experience for the team and our New Mexico program. We are honored to help however possible and look forward to helping in the future when either the women or mens team needs us.

On January 25th 2014 Phoenix, AZ, the Albuquerque Kings entered the 15th Banner wheelchair Suns basketball round up ready to face an unfamiliar Denver rollin Nuggets team.   The Kings got off to a fast start  controlling most of the game and came away with a win 61-43.  Up next The Kings faced a savvy Los Angles Clippers team. The Kings started off slow but were able to pull away  in the first half and come away with a the victory.  55-35.   For the third and final game of the day the kings faced a familiar foe, the  Phoenix Suns.  The  Kings  were unable to contain the Suns  and their hot shooting. Despite a furious 2nd half comeback The Kings fell to the Suns 51-58.

On day 2 The Kings would look to bounce back against a veteran Utah Jazz team. The game went back and forth most of the first half.  The Kings tightened up their defense overwhelming The Jazz 62-46.

In  the final game of the tournament The Kings faced The Las Vegas silver bandits a team they had beaten two weeks earlier in Tucson.   The Silver Bandits came to play jumping out to a 10-1 lead.  the kings were able to cut into the lead trailing  by only 5 points at the half.  Unfortunately  The Kings were unable to carry momentum into the  second half and ended the weekend with a loss.

Update: We are happy to let everyone know that all of your support has helped us raise enough money to purchase a new custom fit wheelchair for Dominique. He has put the chair on order and we’ll post a picture once it arrives. Thanks everyone!

On October 18, 2013, one of our teammate’s, Dominique “D” Rogers, had his everyday wheelchair stolen from Southeast Albuquerque. This chair was built specifically for him. Without this chair he has no way to get around independently. The wheelchair is essentially his legs. We can’t imagine who would do something so terrible. We are raising money to help cover the cost of a new chair and could use everyone’s support. Any amount helps!
