2014 NWBA Nationals

2014-champ-game

Tournament Overview

The road to the championship was not easy. We fought hard playing in several tournaments throughout the US. In the end it was worth it as we qualified and got invited to the 2014 NWBA national championship tournament. The best teams in from all of the NWBA divisions met up in Louisville Kentucky to compete. The Kings compete in the highest division, called the Championship division and of all the teams in our division only the top 16 are invited into the tournament.

We competed hard and ended up with a 2-2 record during the tournament losing both games 1 and 2 by a single possession. However we bounced back to win games 3 and 4.

Legends

We had a great time and learned a lot this season and during the championship tournament. We even had one of our team members, Kipp Elliot invited to play in the NWBA’s first ever Legends game. The legends game is reserved for players 45 and older who have positively impacted the league.

Championship Game

Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the championship game. The NY Knicks and Dallas Mavs battled it out in the end. It was really a great game and the two best teams clearly stood out. As to not spoil the results, take a look at the recorded game below!

Phx Suns basketball round up – 2014

phx-2014

On January 25th 2014 Phoenix, AZ, the Albuquerque Kings entered the 15th Banner wheelchair Suns basketball round up ready to face an unfamiliar Denver rollin Nuggets team.   The Kings got off to a fast start  controlling most of the game and came away with a win 61-43.  Up next The Kings faced a savvy Los Angles Clippers team. The Kings started off slow but were able to pull away  in the first half and come away with a the victory.  55-35.   For the third and final game of the day the kings faced a familiar foe, the  Phoenix Suns.  The  Kings  were unable to contain the Suns  and their hot shooting. Despite a furious 2nd half comeback The Kings fell to the Suns 51-58.

On day 2 The Kings would look to bounce back against a veteran Utah Jazz team. The game went back and forth most of the first half.  The Kings tightened up their defense overwhelming The Jazz 62-46.

In  the final game of the tournament The Kings faced The Las Vegas silver bandits a team they had beaten two weeks earlier in Tucson.   The Silver Bandits came to play jumping out to a 10-1 lead.  the kings were able to cut into the lead trailing  by only 5 points at the half.  Unfortunately  The Kings were unable to carry momentum into the  second half and ended the weekend with a loss.

Tucson Tournament 2014

phx_score_20140111.jpgThe Kings traveled to Tucson AZ, for a tournament hosted by the UofA mens team. We competed at the University of Arizona on January 10th & 11th. The team began the tournament by driving to Tucson from Albuquerque on Friday and faced the UofA men that same Friday evening. Unfortunately we came up short on a low scoring high intensity game losing 45-48. Our coach had us fired up the next morning as we began a 3 game series Saturday. We started with Las Vegas Nevada beating them 68-60. An hour later we played against the Phoenix Suns, repeating our strong performance beating them 63-53. We finished off the afternoon playing the UofA men again, but they got the best of us this tournament as we lost to them again.
